INTRO TO AROMATHERAPY 

Presented by Julie Coleman

 

Explore the wonder and many applications of Essential Oils through this Introductory workshop.  This session will feature essential oil blending to create your own bath/massage oil to take home.  (maximum 12 participants)

The thyroid gland, along with the rest of the endocrine system, is responsible for regulating nearly every bodily function.  Learn herbal and dietary factors that support optimal thyroid function.  Learn to identify a possible thyroid disorder

 

TREE MEDICINE WORKSHOP 

Presented by Michele Graveline

A look at some of the species of Trees that will be present at the Herb Fair. Care will be taken to clarify the diversity within Nova Scotia. Information regarding some basic medicines will be shared.

 

SPIRIT MEDICINE WORKSHOP AND FIELD WALK 

Presented by Laurie Lacey

Join Laurie on a fascinating and fun exploration of Mi'kmaq and plant spirit medicine. Both the workshop and field walk will offer a blend of stories, legends, medicines, and nature impressions. At one moment serious, and the next moment funny, you will enjoy and be inspired by both events.

Note: It is not necessary to participate in both the workshop and the field walk. It is possible to do one and not the other, and still feel as though you've had a complete workshop experience.

VETERINARY APPLICATIONS OF CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINES 

Presented by Dr. Jennifer Bishop

This talk will introduce aspects of educating veterinarians in using herbal medicines. The common disease patterns of dogs and cats will be discussed. Some formulas and their indications will be reviewed. There will be veterinary texts and herbal remedies to peruse.

 

HERB MAGIC

Presented by lola doucet and Shirlie Williamson

"Magic" is the art of using the energy that surrounds us to help us achieve our goals. All plants contain energy and offer it freely to assist us. In this workshop we will be discussing some of the ways we can use plants for magical purposes - from protection and purification to helping us attract love, money and prosperity. We will talk about plants that are used in the native and pagan spiritual paths, particularly those plants that can be found in our own backyards.

 

LET YOUR FOOD BE YOUR
MEDICINE

The focus of this workshop is to demonstrate creative ways to add more "herbs and spice" to your life through food. You will be invited to sample many goodies as well as participate in making your own culinary infused oil.

 

CHINESE MEDICINE

This workshop will discuss the basic theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and explore the properties of some common Chinese and western herbs.

 

PLANT MAGIC AND DARK CHOCOLATE

Join Michele to dance in the forest searching for woodland herbal magic, plant Divas and Fairy's, nibbling the food of the goddess while hearing the lore of Chocolate.  Maximum 12 participants.

Seaweed Workshop

Jenny Luong is a 3rd generation practitioner of natural healing. She is a Herbalist and Massage Therapist that has worked in the health food industry and now has her own practice. In her own life, as well as at her practice, Jenny sees the value of using food as medicine.

Veterinary Applications of Chinese Herbal Medicines

Dr. Jennifer Bishop graduated from veterinary college in 1990. Since graduation, she has explored various forms of complementary and integrative medicine including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, homotoxicology and canine rehabilitation. As in human medicine, the exploration into non-mainstream healing has opened paths to healing for many of her four legged patients.

LOLA DOUCET

Herb Magic

lola doucet is an Acadian womyn who has been living "alternatively" her entire life. As a child, she was raised to use the herbal remedies traditionally and spiritually used by her ancestors, both French Acadian and Mi'kmaq. She still learns through her elders, but over the past few years has started taking directed courses. In her spare time, she practices law.

SHIRLIE WILLIAMSON

Herb Magic

Shirlie Williamson has been studying the magic and medicine of plants for more than ten years. She follows a pagan, basically Wiccan, spiritual path and tries to incorporate herbs into her daily life and spiritual practices.

Roberta Evans is an enthusiastic experienced experimentalist when it comes to foods. She loves creating in the kitchen and sharing her love for "good food" with others, especially in helping people who, often due to health reasons, are looking to find a better way to nourish themselves.

Jane Marshall is a graduate of the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Victoria BC. She has a private practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine in downtown Halifax, where she practices acupuncture and Chinese herbology.

Michele Haddal lives in Sherwood Forest with her husband Tom and 2 dogs Rosco and Daisy Duke. She owns and operates Sherwood Sweets and Savories. Michele is a Chef and Choclatier and produces a line of Belgian Chocolates and Truffles, amoungst other local food products. As Home Herbalist and organic grower she makes a line of culinary and medicinal herbal products.Michele and Jeanette Poirier lead monthly weed walks and herbal workshops . A life long passion with music has resulted in a collabortion with Tom of a Cd of orginal Music, Passing Through, and live performances and a recording of The 12 Celtic Winds project where she was the percussionist. Michele has recently began hand crafting Deer Hide Hoop Drums, Rattles and shakers, and Organic Dog Chewies.
